In a February 9 letter made public on Monday, Mazars USA told the Trump Organization that its financial statements for 2011 to 2020 should no longer be relied on.
The disclosure comes as part of New York Attorney General Letitia James’ civil investigation into the former US President’s New York-based real estate business. The investigation overlaps partly with a criminal investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney, which James joined in May, into the Trump Organization's practices.
New York state’s attorney general has accused the former US President’s company of misrepresenting the value of its assets on several occasions to obtain financial benefits.
Mazars USA said it had reached its decision based on a January filing by James, as well as its own investigation, and information from internal and external sources. Mazars also said it would no longer be working for the Trump Organization.
In response to this, a spokesperson for the company said it is “disappointed that Mazars has chosen to part ways."
