International law firm Brown Rudnick has promoted its associate Camille Vasquez to partner after she helped American actor Johnny Depp secure a $15 million jury verdict in his defamation trial against his former wife Amber Heard.
The televised defamation trial, which lasted several weeks, saw Vasquez become the public face of Depp’s legal team. The team was led by Brown Rudnick partner Benjamin Chew and included nine other attorneys.
However, Vasquez’s performance, in particular, attracted high praise as she cross-examined Heard and told jurors during closing arguments that Heard had been the perpetrator of violence in the former couple’s relationship.
In a Tuesday statement, Brown Rudnick chairman William Baldiga said that the firm normally promotes partners when its fiscal year ends, but has made an exception for Vasquez due to her exceptional work.
"Camille's performance during the Johnny Depp trial proved to the world that she was ready to take this next step now,” Baldiga commented. “We are incredibly proud of her and look forward to what she will accomplish as our newest partner."
