Fourth woman to be murdered in Northern Ireland in six weeks named.

A murder investigation has been initiated following the discovery of a deceased 22-year-old woman in Belfast. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) reported that the body of Mary Ward was located at her residence on Melrose Street in the city last Tuesday.

Authorities believe that Ms. Ward was last seen alive six days prior, on Wednesday, September 25, and they are seeking to speak with anyone who had contact with her around that time. Chief Superintendent Lindsay Fisher remarked that Ms. Ward represents "the fourth woman to be murdered in Northern Ireland within a mere six weeks."

"This situation is utterly unacceptable," the senior officer stated. "Four families have been irrevocably affected by senseless violence." Chief Supt. Fisher noted that the police force has recently updated its "tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG) action plan," aligning its response to such crimes with that of terrorism and serious organized crime.

"The extent of violence and loss in Northern Ireland necessitates nothing less," she emphasized. "We are fully committed to relentlessly pursuing those responsible."

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has announced that the investigation into the death of Ms. Ward has been referred to the Office of the Police Ombudsman after a review of the force's prior interactions with her. The PSNI emphasized that there is "no indication" of any misconduct; however, it expressed concern regarding its organizational response. Detective Chief Inspector Foreman, who is overseeing the major investigation team, stated, "At this moment, our primary thoughts are with Mary's family, who are experiencing profound grief and are finding it challenging to cope with this tragic loss." He added that specially trained family liaison officers are actively supporting the family during this trying time.
