Alex Jones Takes Legal Action Against The Onion and Sandy Hook Families in Infowars Sale Dispute.

Alex Jones, 50, the controversial figure behind Infowars, is pursuing legal action against both The Onion and the families of Sandy Hook shooting victims in an effort to halt the acquisition of his website. The legal challenge comes after The Onion, in collaboration with Sandy Hook families, moved to purchase Jones' primary website during a bankruptcy auction last week.

Jones, known for promoting conspiracy theories, is currently facing around $1.5 billion in damages due to his false claims that the Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax and that the victims' relatives were "crisis actors." Despite the auction, the sale of Free Speech Systems, Infowars' parent company, remains unsettled, with a bankruptcy judge agreeing to review a challenge filed by the losing bidder, First United American Companies.

In a lawsuit filed on Monday, Jones is urging the federal bankruptcy court to support First United, which manages his online supplement business. He also seeks to prevent The Onion from using his image in the event the sale goes through.

Jones, who has long accused mainstream media of spreading false narratives, voiced his frustration on Twitter, stating that he is "confronting the deep state" and insinuating that court documents suggest CIA involvement in the auction process. He also promoted his online supplement shop as part of his fundraising efforts.

The Onion intended to refresh its website to satirize a well-known conspiracy theorist and host, which CEO Ben Collins described as "the funniest thing ever."

"We're going to give some people a good place on the internet to go to because that's very rare now. That's a big part of why we want to do. The media ecosystem is just filled with lies and hate and garbage, and we want to give people a place to at least laugh at it." he said.

Meanwhile, First United has criticized the auction process, arguing that it lacked transparency and fairness. Federal Judge Christopher Lopez agreed, halting the sale while the case is further reviewed. Judge Lopez expressed concerns over the legitimacy of the auction process and emphasized that a more traditional, open auction format should have been used.
