CoinShares Appoints Lisa Avellini as New Group General Counsel.
CoinShares, a leading cryptocurrency asset management firm, has announced the appointment of Lisa Avellini as its new Group General Counsel. Avellini succeeds Graeme Dickson, who departed the company in September to join the Algorand Foundation.
Lisa Avellini brings over two decades of legal and regulatory experience to CoinShares. Before joining the firm, Mrs. Avellini was Deputy General Counsel at Balyasny Europe Asset Management, where she gained significant expertise in managing complex legal matters within the investment industry. She has also held senior legal roles at prominent firms such as Citadel, Sidley Austin, and Clifford Chance.
In her new role at CoinShares, Lisa Avellini will oversee global legal and regulatory affairs, provide strategic counsel to the executive team, and support the firm’s continued growth in the digital asset sector.
Based in Jersey, CoinShares is an alternative asset manager specializing in cryptocurrency assets, offering both asset management and trading services to a range of institutional and individual investors. CEO Jean-Marie Mognetti emphasized that Avellini’s appointment strengthens CoinShares’ ability to navigate the increasingly integrated digital asset ecosystem, which is becoming more closely aligned with traditional finance and its regulatory frameworks.
Her extensive background in legal and regulatory affairs will be instrumental in helping the firm maintain compliance and capitalize on growth opportunities in this evolving space.
Avellini expressed her excitement about joining CoinShares at such a crucial time for the company. She explained that her career has been driven by a commitment to innovation, and she believes the digital asset industry offers unique challenges and opportunities. Avellini is eager to leverage her legal expertise to support CoinShares’ strategic goals and further enhance the company’s robust compliance culture.
Graeme Dickson, who had served as CoinShares' Group General Counsel for five years, left the firm to take on the role of Chief Legal Officer at the Algorand Foundation, a leading blockchain enterprise. Dickson’s legal career also included positions at Aviva, White & Case, and Linklaters. While CoinShares bids farewell to Dickson, the firm is confident that Avellini’s leadership will help steer the company through the next phase of its growth.
