FBI Investigates Break-ins Targeting NFL Stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes – Is an International Syndicate Behind the Crimes?
Local police have partnered with the FBI to investigate a series of high-profile break-ins at the homes of notable athletes, including Kansas City Chiefs stars Travis Kelce, 35, and Patrick Mahomes, 29.
Authorities are delving into whether these burglaries are part of a larger operation connected to an international crime syndicate, potentially one operating out of South America. While the investigation is still in its early stages, law enforcement has yet to identify the culprits behind these brazen break-ins.
The break-ins occurred in a span of just 48 hours, leaving athletes and their families shaken. On October 6, the home of quarterback Patrick Mahomes in Belton, Missouri, was targeted shortly after midnight.
The following day, while the Chiefs were playing the New Orleans Saints at Arrowhead Stadium, tight end Travis Kelce’s residence in Leawood, Kansas, was also burglarized. According to police reports, $20,000 in cash was stolen from Kelce’s home, and a rear door was found broken, signaling a forced entry.
While Kelce has yet to comment on the incident, Mahomes addressed the situation during a press conference on November 13. "It’s frustrating. It’s disappointing, obviously something you don’t want happening to anybody, but especially yourself,”
Mahomes shared, though he declined to provide further details due to the ongoing investigation. It remains unclear if Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, were at home with their two young children, daughter Sterling and son Bronze, at the time of the break-in.
The investigation has grown broader with the discovery of similar burglaries targeting athletes. On November 10, the home of Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis in Wisconsin was broken into, and investigators suspect this incident could be linked to the break-ins involving Kelce and Mahomes.
There’s also a possibility that the home of Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley, which was burglarized in September while he attended a Minnesota Vikings game, may be connected as well.
As authorities piece together the puzzle, they are considering various leads, including the possibility of local involvement.
While it’s known that athletes like Kelce and Mahomes are frequently away from home due to their game schedules, law enforcement has stressed that no stone will be left unturned in this investigation.
The Leawood Police Department, which is handling the investigation into Kelce's break-in, has stated that they are following up on all investigative leads but will not comment further on the ongoing case. "Our agency follows up on all investigative leads and works closely with victims to solve open cases. The Leawood Police Department is dedicated to the public we serve and will work tirelessly to ensure the City of Leawood remains one of the safest cities in the State of Kansas," said a spokesperson for the department.
