A jury in a civil court has determined that Conor McGregor raped a woman in a hotel, resulting in her being awarded €248,603 (£206,000) in damages.

The jury at Dublin's High Court concluded that McGregor assaulted her in a hotel back in 2018. Following the verdict on Friday evening, McGregor, 36, left the court without making any comments. In court, McGregor had claimed that his encounter with Ms. Hand in a penthouse at the Beacon Hotel in December 2018 was consensual. With the verdict behind her, she expressed hope for moving forward with her family and friends. Ms. Hand testified in court that McGregor forcibly restrained her on a bed, choked her multiple times, and "brutally raped and battered" her. The jury in the civil court learned that she suffered significant injuries, including deep bruises on her hands and wrists, a bloody scratch on her breast, and soreness in her neck. However, McGregor's legal team challenged the lawsuit, alleging that she was attempting "extortion."
They referenced CCTV footage showing Ms. Hand arriving at and departing from the hotel with McGregor and another man, James Lawrence, whom she also accused of sexual assault. Both McGregor and Lawrence denied any wrongdoing. While Ms. Hand was successful in her case against McGregor, her claim against Lawrence was unsuccessful. On Monday, McGregor's attorneys urged jurors to focus on the evidence rather than their personal feelings about the well-known fighter.
