New Mexico Resident Awarded Record $412 Million in Medical Malpractice Lawsuit.

A resident of New Mexico has reportedly been granted the largest-ever medical malpractice compensation awarded by a jury in the United States, following a series of unsuccessful penile injections. In November 2024, a jury in Albuquerque awarded the individual, currently in his 70s, a total of $412 million in punitive and compensatory damages.

The lawsuit stemmed from the patient’s experience with NuMale Medical Center, where he received treatment for erectile dysfunction in 2017.

At the time, the man, who was 66 years old, sought help for issues related to fatigue and weight loss. His legal representatives claim that he was misdiagnosed and subjected to unnecessary and invasive injections, which caused him significant physical harm.

The case has garnered national attention, as the $412 million verdict is believed to set a new record for medical malpractice compensation in the U.S. The plaintiff’s attorneys, including Lori Bencoe and Nick Rowley, emphasized the severity of the breach of trust by medical professionals.

Lori Bencoe stated: “It's a national record-setting case and it's righteous because I don't think there's any place for licensed professionals to be defrauding patients for money. That is a very egregious breach of their fiduciary duty. That's breach of trust and anytime someone is wearing a white coat, they shouldn't be allowed to do that."

Despite the ruling, NuMale Medical Center has expressed disagreement with the verdict and is exploring all legal options, including the possibility of an appeal.
