Amy Grant's Heart Will Carry On.
Ailing Christian singer Amy Grant is reflecting on her mortality and the future of her career after enduring two major medical crises in just four years, sources reveal.
The 64-year-old Baby Baby hitmaker admits her journey has been challenging since she was unexpectedly diagnosed with a rare congenital heart disease in 2020. Describing it as the “ticking time bomb in my chest,” she underwent open heart surgery to address the condition.
Then, two years later, she suffered a severe brain injury after hitting a pothole and falling off her bicycle near the Nashville home she shares with her country music star husband, Vince Gill, 67.
While Amy claims she has made a full recovery from her heart surgery, the lingering effects of the brain injury continue to affect her memory, prompting her to rely on a calendar to keep track of important details.
Despite these setbacks, the resilient singer says her experiences have deepened her appreciation for life.
“I always saw myself living well into my 90s,” she says. “To realize something can happen that you never see coming, and it could be over … everything became more precious.”
Dr. Stuart Fischer, a noted New York physician, tells The National ENQUIRER that while Amy’s exercise routine may benefit her heart, the full recovery of her brain may be uncertain.
“Brain injuries are unpredictable,” says Fischer, who doesn’t treat Grant as a patient. “Our brains are very complex, and when nerve cells are killed, they do not grow back. After a traumatic brain injury, the brain has to figure out new pathways, just as if a highway is washed out. Amy could continue to make progress or could already have come as far as she ever will with her memory.”
Nonetheless, a friend reveals, “Amy counts her blessings. She knows that with her medical challenges, she could be a lot worse off!”
