The third-degree assault charge stems from an incident where Rhymes allegedly struck a 50-year-old individual multiple times near the intersection of Jay and Front streets in the Dumbo area of Brooklyn. Third-degree assault is classified as a misdemeanor under New York state law and occurs when a person intentionally or recklessly inflicts physical injury, or uses a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument to cause harm.
