If you bought Clif Bars or Clif Kid ZBars between April 2014 and March 2023, you may be entitled to a share of a recent $12 million settlement.
A proposed settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit against Clif Bar & Company ("Clif Bar") over claims that its Clif Bars and Clif Kid ZBars were falsely marketed as healthy products despite containing unhealthy levels of added sugar. The plaintiffs allege that the labeling of the products misled consumers into believing they were healthier than they actually were. Clif Bar denies any wrongdoing and maintains that its products are not unhealthy due to the added sugar content and that its product labels are truthful and not misleading. The case is being handled in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, under the title Ralph Milan et al. v. Clif Bar & Co., No. 18-cv-2354-JD, with Judge James Donato presiding.
Am I Part of the Settlement?
You may be eligible to be part of the settlement if you purchased Clif Bars or Clif Kid ZBars in the United States for household use (not for resale or distribution) during the Class Period.
- Class Period:
- For residents of California and New York: April 19, 2014, to March 31, 2023
- For residents outside of California and New York: March 31, 2019, to March 31, 2023
- Class Products include:
- Original Clif Bars with the phrase “Nutrition for Sustained Energy” on the packaging
- Clif Kid ZBars with claims such as:
- “No High Fructose Corn Syrup”
- “Nourishing Kids in Motion”
- “In raising our family, finding nutritious on-the-go snacks for our kids wasn’t easy. That’s why we created Clif Kid – wholesome, delicious snacks made with organic ingredients to help keep kids going, growing, and exploring.”
- “Blend of carbs, fiber, protein, and fat gives kids energy so they can keep Zipping and Zooming along. Keep Kids Going and Growing.”
These claims and similar ones, as identified in the complaint, are challenged in the case.

The only way to get a monetary payment. Claim Forms must be submitted either online HERE, or by mail to the following address:

Ask to be excluded by October 22, 2024

If you ask to be excluded you will not be bound by what the Court does in this case and will keep any right you might have to sue Clif Bar & Company separately about the same legal claims in this lawsuit. If there is a recovery in this case, including under the proposed Settlement, you will not share in that recovery.
