Gibson Dunn appoints new co-managing partners in London.

Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, a prominent US law firm, has made changes to its leadership team in London. Robert Carr, a partner specializing in real estate and finance, along with Osma Hudda, a partner focused on disputes, have been appointed as co-partners overseeing the firm's London office.

They succeed Ali Nikpay and Penny Madden KC, who held the position since early 2021. Carr joined Gibson Dunn in August 2021 after a 15-year tenure at Herbert Smith Freehills, where he spent five years as a partner. His expertise lies in advising both lenders and borrowers on real estate-backed financing transactions across the UK and Europe.

Hudda currently serves as co-chair of the firm's London disputes group and possesses extensive experience in various dispute resolution fields, including litigation and international arbitration. The pair assumed their new responsibilities at the beginning of this year. Nikpay will refocus on his role as co-chair of the firm's global competition group, while Madden will continue her leadership as co-chair of the international arbitration practice group.

Gibson Dunn has confirmed these appointments but has chosen not to provide additional comments. According to its website, Gibson Dunn's London office comprises 179 lawyers.

Leadership Changes

Other firms in London have also recently undergone leadership changes, such as Clifford Chance, which appointed Chinwe Odimba-Chapman as its London managing partner in December, marking a historic moment as she is the first black woman to lead the Magic Circle firm's London office.

In September, Latham & Watkins appointed corporate partner Ed Barnett as its new London managing partner, succeeding Stephen Kensell, who had held the position since March 2020. In June, Hausfeld appointed competition litigator Nicola Boyle as its new London managing partner, taking over from Lianne Craig, who stepped down early for personal reasons.

Additionally, in May, McDermott Will & Emery named Aymen Mahmoud as its London managing partner, replacing Hamid Yunis, who had led the office since 2019 and managed the firm’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
