Krista Joiner Slams Xzibit in Plea for Emergency Funds Amid L.A. Fires and Ongoing Divorce.
Krista Joiner, 53, the estranged wife of rapper Xzibit, 50, recently made an urgent appeal in court, requesting financial assistance after she and their son were forced to evacuate their home due to wildfires in Los Angeles. In her court filing, Krista sought access to funds from the sale of their marital home to help cover her immediate expenses. The judge overseeing their ongoing divorce denied her request and encouraged both parties to reach an agreement regarding their financial matters.
Krista Joiner, estranged wife of rapper Xzibit, is seeking financial assistance amid ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. In her court filing, she requested access to funds from the sale of their marital home to cover emergency expenses for herself and their son, citing health concerns due to poor air quality.
A Long-Running Divorce Battle
Krista initiated divorce proceedings from Xzibit, 50, in 2021 after six years of marriage. The couple shares a son, Gatlyn, and tragically lost another son, Xaiver, in 2008 due to premature birth. Their divorce has led to a lengthy legal battle, with the two set to go to trial in April 2024.
Earlier this month, Krista filed another motion, accusing Xzibit of failing to make his required child and spousal support payments for December 2024. According to Krista, Xzibit was supposed to pay $1,688 per month for temporary child support and an additional $3,075 for temporary spousal support.
Urgent Need for Financial Assistance Due to Wildfires
In her latest court filing, Krista explained the urgency of her financial needs, especially in light of the wildfires threatening their home. She said, “I am extremely concerned that I have no funds in case of an emergency, and during the present fire-related emergency. Xzibit has proven that he will not assist, or even inquire to see if we need help, during this or any other emergency.”
Krista went on to explain that she and their son had to leave their home on January 10 because of the nearby Kenneth Fire and the dangerous air quality. Her son, who suffers from asthma, was using his inhaler constantly to breathe. Krista described the situation: “I am currently staying at a hotel far away, but will have to reimburse my employer because I obtained permission to use the company credit card for one night only. Without emergency funds, I am faced with the possibility of having to return to Los Angeles when the evacuation orders are over, which, given the air quality, may endanger my child’s health and well-being.”
Krista’s financial struggles were further exacerbated by a second fire, the Archer Fire, which led to another evacuation notice. “The fires are still not under control, and the air quality is poor. Given our son’s asthma, I am not comfortable returning us to the area yet. The prospect of returning soon to Los Angeles seems dismal, placing me in extreme financial duress now and for the foreseeable future absent access” to the funds from the home sale, she explained.
Financial Struggles and Disagreements Over Home Sale
Krista also revealed that Xzibit had contacted her recently, stating his intentions to use the funds from the home sale to cover his own financial needs. “He explained that since I had lived in the house post-separation, he was entitled to more of the split and that he would take it whether I agreed or not.” Krista expressed frustration over Xzibit’s failure to meet financial obligations, including stopping payments for their son’s tuition. “Xzibit and I had previously agreed that our son would remain in the same school he has been in since kindergarten and that Xzibit would pay the tuition.”
Krista attempted to resolve these issues by reaching out to Xzibit, but as usual, he refused to communicate. “I attempted to reach Xzibit by telephone, but as usual, was unable to do so because Xzibit refuses to speak to me, co-parent with me, and has blocked my phone number. I used our son’s phone to call Xzibit. Xzibit answered the phone. Xzibit yelled at me that he knew he had not paid spousal and child support and said he would not do so at that time. He claimed that he could not pay and would not be working until January of 2025.”
Xzibit's Legal Team Responds
Xzibit’s attorney, Roslyn Soudry, has criticized Krista’s motions, calling it “disgraceful that individuals would exploit this tragic situation” for personal gain. Soudry further expressed her dismay over Krista’s recent appeal, saying, “This is shameful.” She added, “This catastrophic event is burning people’s homes to the ground and has affected so many people in unimaginable ways.”
