LA Wildfire GoFundMe Backlash: Mandy Moore Says ‘Kindly F Off’
Mandy Moore, 40, has addressed backlash after sharing a GoFundMe campaign for her family members who lost their home in the recent Los Angeles wildfires. The actress, best known for her role in This Is Us, took to Instagram on January 9 to promote the fundraising campaign titled “Help the Goldsmiths Rebuild After Devastating Fire Loss.” The campaign aimed to raise $60,000 for her brother-in-law Griff and sister-in-law Kit, who lost everything, including their home and Griff’s musical equipment.
Mandy Moore faced backlash after sharing a GoFundMe campaign to help her family members who lost their home in the Los Angeles wildfires. The actress, who has also been impacted by the fires, defended her post, telling critics to "Kindly F Off" and stressing that her family needed support during this difficult time.
Mandy captioned the post, “Yesterday, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law Griff & Kit lost their home and everything they own in the Eaton Fire. With their first baby on the way in a matter of weeks, they need our support now more than ever,” Mandy captioned the post. “Griff is a touring musician and also lost his entire arsenal of drums/percussion he uses to make a living. “It’s all so much. So many have asked how to help during this unimaginable and stressful time … Please consider donating and sharing to help them rebuild. link in bio and all the love.”
However, Mandy faced criticism from some who questioned the need for donations, especially given her own celebrity status. She responded directly to her critics, writing, “And people questioning whether we’re helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money Google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic,” she continued. “Of course we are. Our buddy Matt started this GoFundMe and I’m sharing because people have asked how they can help them. We just lost most of our life in a fire too. Kindly F OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything.”
After turning off comments on the post, Mandy continued to share updates and support for fire victims on her Instagram Stories, promoting other families’ GoFundMe pages and fire relief resources. “Love you, Kit and Griff,” she wrote in another post dedicated to her family.
Mandy had previously shared that she and her family were forced to evacuate their home in Altadena on January 8, only to discover the next day that their property had been severely damaged by the fires. She reflected on the experience, saying, “We lost Taylor and Griffin’s studio with every instrument and piece of equipment they’ve ever owned... Everyone we know lost everything.”
Despite the overwhelming loss, Mandy expressed a sense of responsibility to help others in the community, adding, “Altadena strong.”
