Mel Gibson shares the emotional loss of his Malibu home to wildfires during an appearance on Joe Rogan's podcast. Despite the devastation, he remains focused on the safety of his family. Gibson also criticizes Governor Gavin Newsom's handling of California's wildfire crisis and hints at relocating to Costa Rica.

In an interview on NewsNation's Elizabeth Vargas Reports, Gibson recalled the moment he returned to find his home "completely toasted." He explained, “I was doing the Rogan podcast, I was kind of ill at ease while we were talking because I knew my neighborhood was on fire, so I thought ‘I wonder if my place is still there’, but when I got home, sure enough, it wasn’t there.”

Reflecting on the devastation, Gibson described the loss as "devastating" and "emotional". “You live there for a long time, and you had all your stuff. I lived there for about 14, 15 years so it was home to me,” he said. “I had a lot of personal things there that I can’t get back – everything from photographs to files to just personal things that I had from over the years. That can all be replaced. These are only things.”

He added, “And the good news is that those in my family and those I love are all well, and we’re all happy and healthy and out of harm’s way.”

During the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Gibson voiced his frustration with California’s handling of the wildfires, particularly criticizing Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. “I think Newsom said ‘I’m going to take care of the forest and maintain the forest and do all that kind of stuff’ — he didn’t do anything,” Gibson said. “I think all our tax dollars probably went for Gavin’s hair gel.”

He also expressed disappointment in the state’s failure to address ongoing environmental challenges, adding, “It’s sad, the place is just on fire.”

When asked by Joe Rogan if the fire would finally push him out of California, Gibson responded, “Yeah, maybe,” hinting that he might relocate to his home in Costa Rica. "Do you think this will get you out of California finally?" Rogan asked. "Yeah, maybe," Gibson replied.

Gibson’s comments, both candid and emotional, underscore the deep personal impact of the tragedy while highlighting ongoing concerns over California's wildfire management.

Mel Gibson is known for his advocacy on various social causes, including his support for issues related to human trafficking, a crime that affects millions of people, particularly children, around the world. However, it's important to clarify that, while Gibson has expressed his concern about human trafficking and supported awareness efforts, there is no verified documentation or evidence that he was directly involved in dismantling a specific pedophile ring in Ukraine.

Gibson's activism around human trafficking aligns with his broader interest in social justice issues. He has publicly supported films and initiatives aimed at raising awareness about human trafficking, such as Sound of Freedom, a film that sheds light on the global child trafficking crisis.
