Meri Brown from Sister Wives says that Kody has been threatening to treat her badly for two decades before their split.

Meri Brown, a star of Sister Wives, revealed that her former husband, Kody Brown, threatened to treat her “horribly” for two decades before their eventual separation.

During a conversation with her friend Jenn Sullivan on the Sunday, January 5 episode, Meri, 53, recounted a moment shortly after Kody, 55, moved to Las Vegas. She shared, “He told me, ‘You’ve been really horrible to me for 20 years. So you’ll have to wait at least that long for me to fix my relationship with you.’”

Meri reflected on Kody’s remarks, which were made while the family was living in a rental home after relocating to Nevada in 2011. She remembered Kody saying, “‘You’ve been difficult to live with. You’ve been unkind. So now I’m going to treat you this way, and you’ll just have to deal with it for 20 years.’” Jenn was visibly taken aback by Kody’s words and questioned how he could say such a thing. However, Meri showed that she had moved past it, joking, “The joke’s on him; I didn’t last that long.” In a confessional, she added, “It’s no wonder people look at me and think, ‘Really?

Why didn’t you see the signs?’ I did see the signs. I understood the message he was sending. I just thought he was trying to work things out.” Meri acknowledged, “Sometimes he says really hurtful things when he doesn’t mean them. I also recognize that I wasn’t the easiest person to live with. I understand that.” On the other hand, Kody maintained in the episode that he didn’t make those comments out of anger. “I said it because I was mad enough to speak the truth. Looking back on our marriage, I think, ‘We should have divorced here, here, and here.’ But I never believed in divorce,” he explained.

Meri wrapped up the discussion by expressing her intention to apply the lessons learned from her marriage as she moves forward. “All I can do is reflect on myself, identify areas for improvement, and strive to be a better person, making the rest of my life as fulfilling as possible,” she shared with Jenn. “I aimed to do that during the marriage.” At the time, Kody was still married to Meri, Christine Brown, Janelle Brown, and Robyn Brown.

Meri and Kody, who tied the knot in 1990, officially divorced in 2014 to allow him to marry Robyn, 46, and adopt her children from a previous relationship, although they maintained a spiritual marriage until their separation nearly ten years later. Christine, 52, departed from the Brown family in November 2021, followed by Janelle, 55, in December 2022. Kody and Meri also confirmed their separation in January 2023 after months of speculation. “We feel it’s important to share our truth, in our own way and at our own pace,” the former couple stated in a joint Instagram post. “After over a decade of trying to make our relationship work in our own special ways, we have decided to end our marriage for good.”

Meri Brown’s candid reflections on her marriage to Kody Brown highlight the emotional struggles and difficult moments she faced. Despite the challenges, she aims to grow from her experiences, focusing on personal growth and fulfillment as she moves forward, signaling a new chapter after years of reflection and hardship.
