Which past presidents are expected to attend Donald Trump inauguration?
Former First Lady Michelle Obama declared on Tuesday that she will not be present at the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.
It has been customary for former presidents and their families to attend inaugurations following their departure from office, with the exception of the incoming president. Trump notably did not attend the inauguration of President Joe Biden in 2021, following the events of the January 6 Capitol riot.
The three living former presidents who are not being inaugurated on January 20 are expected to attend the ceremony, alongside Biden, who will be concluding his term.
The following is a list of the living former presidents and their attendance status regarding President-elect Trump's inauguration.
President Joe Biden
President Joe Biden confirmed in December that he will be present for the inauguration. "Of course I am," Biden stated in an interview with the Meidas Touch network. "The only president ever to avoid an inauguration is the guy that's about to be inaugurated."
Barack Obama
Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the inauguration. However, his wife, former First Lady Michelle Obama, will not be attending, as announced by the Office of Barack and Michelle Obama.
George W. Bush
The office of George W. Bush has confirmed that both he and former First Lady Laura Bush will be in attendance at Trump's inauguration. Bill Clinton According to the Associated Press, both Bill and Hillary Clinton are expected to attend the inauguration.
