D.A. Demands Patrick Mahomes’ Dad Wear Alcohol Tracking Bracelet Days After Super Bowl Fight.

A Texas District Attorney has urged a judge to impose an alcohol monitoring bracelet on Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of NFL star Patrick Mahomes, following an altercation that occurred during Super Bowl weekend.

According to court documents the District Attorney in Smith County, Texas, along with a community supervisor officer, formally requested that a condition be added to Patrick Mahomes Sr.'s sentence. This request came after he was reportedly involved in a heated exchange with former MLB pitcher John Rocker in New Orleans during the Super Bowl festivities.

In February 2024, TMZ reported that Patrick Mahomes Sr., 54, was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI) for a third or more offense. Body cam footage from the arrest revealed Patrick Sr. telling an officer, “I’m supposed to be going to the Super Bowl to watch my son play football, and this is what we’re doing?”

The outlet also reported that Patrick Sr. had previously been arrested for a DWI in 2019, resulting in a 40-day jail sentence. Following his 2024 arrest, Patrick Sr. was released on a $100,000 bond. In August 2024, he pleaded guilty to a felony DWI charge. His attorney, Joseph D. Murphy, stated at the time, “Today, Mr. Mahomes entered a guilty plea in his case pursuant to a written plea agreement. Our client is now living a sober life, and we believe that the steps he has taken to better his life have helped us negotiate a plea recommendation for probation.”

As reported by ESPN, Patrick Mahomes Sr. was sentenced to five years of probation, with intense supervision required during the first 12 months. If he violates the conditions of his probation within the first year, he could face up to 10 years in prison. The judge also ordered Patrick Sr. to complete 160 hours of community service, potentially undergo a substance abuse evaluation, enroll in a DWI repeat offender program, and attend Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings. Furthermore, he was ordered to serve 10 days in jail, have his driver's license suspended, and install an interlock device in his vehicle to test his blood alcohol content before the car can start.

In the latest motion, the District Attorney and the community supervision officer noted, “Patrick Mahomes … due to the defendant’s extensive travel outside of Smith County for sports events, it’s requested the defendant have an additional portable alcohol monitoring device when he’s not using his vehicle.” They further asked for the court to require him to enroll in the SCRAM Bracelet Alcohol Monitoring Program, at his own expense. The motion also requested that he follow all rules and regulations set by the program, without tampering or circumventing the device.

A ruling from the judge on the request has not yet been made. In addition to his legal troubles, Patrick Mahomes Sr.'s son, Patrick Mahomes, and his Kansas City Chiefs teammates suffered a loss in the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles.
