Janelle Brown Says She’s ‘Not Interested’ in Marriage After Kody Split.
It’s been over two years since Janelle Brown and Kody Brown’s separation became public, and now, Janelle is opening up about her future when it comes to love and marriage. On the February 17, 2025, episode of the “Sibling Revelry” podcast, hosted by Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson, Janelle, 55, shared her feelings about her romantic life post-split.
“My marriage is over. I don’t know what I’m gonna do,” she said. “I’m not really interested in getting married again or even really dating at this stage. So, I’m not even thinking about, like, ‘Oh, what do I need to do?’ Because I’m just like, I am over [it].”
Although Janelle is clear that she’s “done” with dating for now and enjoys her single life, she remains open to the possibility of a new relationship “if something presents itself in the future.” This statement reflects her current contentment with where she is in life and her desire to focus on herself rather than rush into another relationship.
Janelle’s journey through marriage has not been without its challenges. She has experienced two divorces, one from her first husband Adam Barber in 1990, who was also the brother of her former sister wife Meri Brown.
In December 2022, Janelle “outgrew” her spiritual marriage to Kody, 56, leading to their separation. This separation was later confirmed by the couple during the Sister Wives: One-on-One special.
“I am separated from Janelle, and I am divorced from Christine [Brown],” Kody admitted in the special. Janelle and Kody had been spiritually married in 1993 and share six children together: Logan, Maddie, Hunter, Garrison, Gabriel, and Savannah Brown.
Kody's polygamous marriages to Janelle, Meri, Christine, and Robyn spanned decades before significant changes occurred. Kody legally married Meri in 1990, followed by a spiritual marriage to Janelle in 1993. Christine and Kody tied the knot spiritually in 1994, and Robyn and Kody were spiritually married in 2010, later legalizing their marriage in 2014 after Kody's divorce from Meri.
Their unique family dynamic was well-known to viewers of Sister Wives for over 15 years, but things shifted dramatically when Christine announced her departure from Kody in November 2021.

The following December, Janelle confirmed her separation, and by January 2023, Meri also revealed that her marriage to Kody was over. As of now, Kody and Robyn remain in a monogamous marriage, while Kody has addressed his feelings regarding the end of his marriages.
“I hear about Christine falling in love and getting married [to husband David Wooley] and stuff like this, and I’m, like, going, ‘Well, good on Christine,’” Kody remarked during a Sister Wives season 9 confessional shared on Instagram on February 8. “Janelle was a different story. I always thought – I just felt like Janelle and I could have worked it out.”
In the wake of these separations, Janelle and Kody experienced unimaginable heartache when their son Garrison tragically died by suicide on March 5, 2024.
A private funeral for close family members was held in Flagstaff, Arizona, later that month, where emotions ran high as the family gathered to share memories of Garrison.
A source exclusively shared that “everyone was hugging and tearing up. It was the hardest thing any of them have ever had to do, but sharing stories about Garrison helped them get through it.”
Afterward, the family came together again to honor Garrison at a ceremony hosted by the Nevada National Guard. At this event, Kody and Robyn sat apart from Janelle and the others, though they all participated in honoring Garrison’s memory.
The story of Janelle and Kody Brown represents more than just a series of personal relationships; it serves as a microcosm of the larger conversation surrounding polygamy in modern society.
The Brown family first brought polygamy into the public eye through their reality TV show Sister Wives, which debuted on TLC in 2010. While polygamy has deep historical and cultural roots in various communities, the Browns made headlines by showcasing their unusual family structure—four wives living under one roof with a shared husband.
However, the challenges faced by the Brown family are not unique. The reality of polygamous relationships is complex, often marked by emotional and financial strain, as well as societal stigma.

In the case of the Browns, the pressure to maintain a harmonious family unit was compounded by public scrutiny, making the personal difficulties they faced even more amplified.
Janelle’s decision to step away from the idea of remarriage reflects a broader trend in many modern relationships where individuals are choosing to remain single and focus on personal growth rather than societal expectations of marriage. In recent years, there has been a shift towards embracing singlehood and prioritizing personal development over traditional notions of love and marriage.
Looking to the future, the rise of non-traditional relationships, including open marriages and polyamorous communities, may lead to even greater public awareness and acceptance of different family dynamics.
For Janelle, this new chapter in her life could represent the start of something entirely new, where she explores relationships and personal fulfillment on her own terms.
As more people embrace diverse family structures, stories like the Browns' will continue to spark conversations about love, commitment, and individual agency in relationships.
