Michigan Man Allegedly Impersonated Trooper to See Dead Wife in Morgue After Domestic Abuse Accusations.

A Michigan man, 74-year-old John Dominick Bromley, has been arrested after allegedly impersonating a state trooper to gain access to his deceased wife’s body in a hospital morgue. The disturbing incident comes after his wife, 68-year-old, accused him of domestic violence just days before her death, authorities reported.

The Michigan State Police’s investigation into Bromley began in June 2024 when troopers responded to a report of two individuals squatting in an unoccupied cabin in Otsego County. Upon arrival, police found Bromley and his wife living in the cabin without permission. While speaking with the couple, authorities noticed that the woman showed signs of “extensive bruising and difficulty breathing,” prompting immediate medical intervention. She was transported to Otsego Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City for more advanced treatment. Sadly, she passed away a few days after being admitted.

While hospitalized, the woman revealed to police that she had suffered from a history of domestic abuse. After her death, Bromley allegedly tried to access the hospital morgue by impersonating a state trooper. Police denied him access, prompting a “lengthy investigation” that included an autopsy, which eventually confirmed the abuse claims.

The case was handed over to the Otsego County Prosecutor's Office, which issued an arrest warrant last month. Bromley was arrested on Feb. 9, 2025, during a traffic stop for speeding in Oakland County. He was later transferred to Otsego County Jail, where he was arraigned on charges of aggravated domestic violence and first-degree vulnerable adult abuse. He was held on a $50,000 cash surety bond. Additionally, Bromley faces charges in Grand Traverse County for impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Authorities continue to investigate the case, and Bromley faces significant legal consequences for his actions, including both the abuse and his attempt to gain unauthorized access to his wife’s body.
