In a shocking turn of events, Eric Mabius, best known for his role as Daniel Meade on Ugly Betty and more recently the star of Hallmark’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered franchise, was arrested early Thursday, February 20, in Florida.
The 53-year-old actor was taken into custody at approximately 2 a.m. local time by the Nassau County Sheriff's Office and booked at 5:45 a.m. on two misdemeanor charges: battery and resisting arrest without violence.

The incident took place in Nassau County, Florida, where Mabius was arrested and later booked at the Nassau County Jail and Detention Center.
His mugshot reveals a black eye on his right side, which indicates that the arrest may have been preceded or accompanied by an altercation. At the time of his arrest, Mabius was still awaiting trial, according to the sheriff's office.
Mabius has enjoyed a long and diverse career in Hollywood, but he’s perhaps best known for his iconic role on Ugly Betty, which aired for four seasons.
His portrayal of the charming yet complicated Daniel Meade earned him a place in the hearts of viewers. More recently, Mabius has found success as the lead in Signed, Sealed, Delivered, the beloved Hallmark movie franchise that began as a TV show in 2013 and has since evolved into 13 films, much to the delight of its dedicated fan base.
Back in July 2024, Mabius expressed his pride in the Signed, Sealed, Delivered franchise, saying, “We have such a fervent fan base. Each time we come back together to do another movie, there seems to be so much more behind it, in a lot of good ways.
There's a lot of heaviness, but also so much delight in being together. I think we're in such a unique place with the show and having 11 years to evolve as human beings, getting the characters doing the same.”
Mabius, who married Ivy Sherman in 2006, is a father of two children, Maxfield, 18, and Rylan, 16. Despite the shocking news surrounding his arrest, Mabius remains a well-respected figure in the entertainment industry, with many fans eagerly awaiting his next project.
Eric Mabius’ arrest comes as a blow to his public image, which has always been relatively quiet and reserved.
With his long-running role on Ugly Betty and his ongoing success with Hallmark’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered franchise, Mabius has built a reputation as a versatile and beloved actor, mostly known for family-friendly roles.
However, the arrest could be a significant turning point in his career, potentially altering public perception.
In the age of social media, celebrity arrests are quickly amplified, and the consequences can be far-reaching, even for stars who may have kept a low profile.
Hallmark, known for its wholesome brand and family-oriented programming, may be faced with difficult decisions regarding Mabius' involvement in future films or TV shows within the franchise. The public's reaction will likely influence the direction Mabius takes next.
While Ugly Betty remains a nostalgic favorite for many fans, Mabius has found a steady stream of work within Hallmark’s channel, where he has built a loyal fanbase.
His portrayal of the charismatic and lovable Oliver O’Toole in Signed, Sealed, Delivered has garnered attention and praise, cementing his place as a Hallmark favorite.
As for his personal life, Mabius has been relatively private. His arrest puts a temporary spotlight on his personal issues, but it's yet to be seen how the legal process will unfold. Will Mabius bounce back from this setback, or will the damage to his career be too much to overcome?
Time will tell, but for now, fans of the actor are holding out hope for his recovery both personally and professionally.
Moving forward, Mabius’ path will depend on how he addresses the incident publicly and the actions he takes to rectify the situation. If he handles the matter with transparency and accountability, it could be possible for him to maintain his standing within the entertainment industry, but only time will reveal how things unfold.
