Eddie Jordan, F1 Icon, Passes Away at 76 After Legendary Career.

Eddie Jordan, the legendary Formula 1 team owner, has sadly passed away at the age of 76. Known for his larger-than-life personality and significant impact on motorsport, Jordan's passing marks the end of an era in F1.

With a career spanning both the racetrack and the boardroom, Jordan leaves behind an indelible legacy that will continue to influence the sport for years to come.

Early Life and Racing Career

Born in Dublin, Ireland, Eddie Jordan first made a name for himself as a racer in the 1970s and early 1980s. His early career saw success in the Irish Kart Championship and participation in prestigious events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Jordan also raced in various categories, including Formula Ford, Formula 3, and Formula 2. Though his racing career did not reach the heights of some of his contemporaries, his journey paved the way for his next chapter—team ownership.

From Driver to F1 Team Owner

In the late 1970s, Jordan took the bold step of founding his own team, Jordan Grand Prix, which would soon become one of the most recognized names in Formula 1. After securing an entry to the F1 grid in 1991, Jordan quickly rose to prominence.

The team achieved its first Grand Prix victory in 1998 during a rain-drenched Belgian Grand Prix, with Damon Hill taking the win. This victory, followed by further success in 1999 and 2003, cemented Jordan's reputation as an innovator and a key player in the world of motorsport.

A Career Beyond the Track

After selling Jordan Grand Prix in 2005, Eddie Jordan remained a significant figure in F1. He transitioned to a successful career as a TV pundit, offering expert analysis and insight as a commentator for the BBC and later Channel 4.

He gained fame for breaking stories like Lewis Hamilton's move from McLaren to Mercedes in 2012. Jordan also hosted the popular British TV show Top Gear and launched a podcast, Formula For Success, alongside fellow former driver David Coulthard.

Jordan's connections to the sport extended beyond broadcasting, including managing prominent F1 designer Adrian Newey and facilitating his move from Red Bull to Aston Martin. His charisma and insight made him a beloved figure both on and off the screen.

Personal Life, Charisma, and Final Moments

Outside of motorsport, Eddie Jordan led an eclectic and adventurous life. He was a passionate music lover, forming his own band and even playing the drums and spoons.

His interests also included golf, cycling, and the arts. Jordan’s larger-than-life personality and Irish charm made him a standout figure in any room. In his final years, he took on the role of Patron for the London Irish Rugby Football Club.

Eddie Jordan passed away peacefully in Cape Town on March 20, 2025, after battling an aggressive form of prostate cancer. His family released a heartfelt statement, reflecting on his immense energy and the huge void his passing has left.

“He brought an abundance of charisma, energy, and Irish charm everywhere he went. He will be missed by so many.” they said.

A Legacy That Will Live On

Eddie Jordan's impact on Formula 1 and the world of motorsport cannot be overstated. As a team owner, he not only created one of the most iconic F1 teams but also provided a platform for the likes of Michael Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello, Damon Hill, and many others to make their mark in the sport.
