Former CIA Agent Claims There Was Life on Mars—and Has 'Evidence' to Prove It.
A former CIA agent has broken his silence about his extraordinary experiences as a “remote viewer,” revealing that he believes there was once life on Mars. Joe McMoneagle, known as the CIA's Remote Viewer No. 1, says he uncovered compelling evidence of Martian life during his time working with the agency in the 1980s.
Joe McMoneagle, the CIA's top remote viewer, revealed on the American Alchemy podcast Friday how he was given specific coordinates and asked to describe what he saw. He was then shown a card with the target labeled: "Mars 1,000,000 BC."

McMoneagle was part of a series of secret experiments conducted by the CIA in the 1980s, aimed at developing remote viewing capabilities. Remote viewing is the practice of perceiving distant objects, places, or events using only the mind. McMoneagle and other individuals with supposed psychic abilities were tasked with gathering intelligence on locations and events around the world—sometimes even beyond Earth.
Speaking on the American Alchemy podcast last Friday, McMoneagle shared his startling findings from one of these experiments. When asked to focus on a set of coordinates, McMoneagle was shown a card with the inscription "Mars 1,000,000 BC."

During the session, McMoneagle described what he saw as "a giant pyramid" larger than Egypt’s Great Pyramid of Giza, with “monster rooms inside.” He also reported seeing large human-like figures, some “twice our size,” who were trapped in a deteriorating atmosphere.
“I started getting an image of human beings that were trapped in a place where the atmosphere was turning bad,” McMoneagle said. “It was obvious these people were dying for some reason, but they were humans. They were just twice our size.”
The Discovery of Martian Artifacts
McMoneagle's remote viewing experience seemed to align with his later investigation into NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Afterward, he stormed into NASA demanding access to photographs of the Martian landscape. He claims to have uncovered images showing bones and large structures on Mars—possible remnants of an ancient civilization.
McMoneagle theorized that a massive object passed through our solar system and stripped Mars of its atmosphere, leading to the extinction of its inhabitants. He believes this catastrophic event could explain why Mars, now a barren desert, once supported life.
The CIA's Declassified Documents and Mars Exploration
In 2017, the CIA declassified a document titled "Mars Exploration May 22, 1984," which provides additional context to McMoneagle’s extraordinary claims. The report, which was released after years of secrecy, details his remote viewing session during which McMoneagle was instructed to focus on the coordinates 40.89 degrees north, 9.55 degrees west—a location on Mars.
The document confirms that McMoneagle was provided with an envelope containing information about the target, which read: The Planet Mars. Time of interest approximately one million BC.
During the experiment, McMoneagle observed giant pyramids on Mars and later discovered images of similar structures on the Martian surface.
McMoneagle Describes His Findings
According to McMoneagle, he saw large pyramids on Mars during his remote viewing session, and was particularly struck by their size. “It sort of looks… I kind of got an oblique view of a… pyramid or pyramid form,” McMoneagle said. His description of the Martian structures was so detailed that it mirrored actual images of similar formations found on Mars.
He even described seeing what he called “very tall, thin” people wearing strange clothing, while a violent storm ripped through the Martian landscape. The people appeared to take shelter inside the pyramids, which seemed to have “different chambers... almost stripped of any kind of furnishings.”
McMoneagle elaborated further: “It’s like… strictly functional, a place for sleeping—or that’s not a good word—hibernation, some form.”
McMoneagle’s Disbelief and NASA’s Involvement
The remote viewer was initially unaware that the target he was focusing on was Mars. When McMoneagle finally realized it, he was “livid.”
“I hate doing a target where I cannot prove ground truth because then I don’t know if it’s real or I’m inventing it,” he said.
Despite his doubts, McMoneagle was convinced by his findings. He claimed to have visited NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where he confronted a staff member with the coordinates he was given during the experiment.
“I showed the guy at the counter the coordinates, and he said, ‘Oh, this is the old city on Mars,’” McMoneagle revealed.
At NASA’s suggestion, McMoneagle was provided with negatives of the Martian landscape, including images of a pyramid-shaped structure located on the edge of a giant impact crater.
McMoneagle presented an image that he claimed depicted a device with buttons and a spinning ball.
The Martian Civilization McMoneagle Encountered
Further remote viewing sessions revealed more about the Martian civilization McMoneagle allegedly encountered. He reported that the ancient inhabitants of Mars appeared to be “very philosophic” about their extinction, and that they were looking for a way to survive but couldn’t.
One of the people he “spoke” to during the session told him about a group that had left in a vessel resembling “the inside of a larger boat.” McMoneagle’s impressions of their journey included bizarre images of a volatile world with volcanoes, gas pockets, and strange vegetation.
“The difference is there seems to be a lot of vegetation where the other place did not have it. And a different kind of storm,” McMoneagle noted.
He also described Mars as a dangerous place, one where the atmosphere was rapidly deteriorating, and life was coming to an end.
Is There Evidence of Ancient Life on Mars?
McMoneagle’s findings have sparked intense debate about the possibility of ancient civilizations on Mars. While some remain skeptical, others believe his experiences could offer groundbreaking insights into the history of the Red Planet.
“They’re not hiding [this information],” McMoneagle said of NASA. “They’re just not talking about it.”
