Kenneth Cope has died aged 93.
Carry On and Coronation Street star Kenneth Cope has passed away at the age of 93, as confirmed by his former agent.
He was best known for his roles as Marty Hopkirk in Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), Jed Stone in Coronation Street, Ray Hilton in Brookside, Sid in The Damned and as a minor member of the Carry On Team.
Sandra Chalmers, of The Artists Partnership shared a statement released by his family saying: “Ken passed away yesterday peacefully in his sleep with his wife and family by his side.” They described him as “an incredible icon of British TV and film”, with a six-decade career that “contributed to some of the most iconic moments in British culture” as well as being “a natural comedy actor.”
Kenneth Cope was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2000, but six years later it was revealed that this diagnosis was incorrect. He later suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
In his later years Kenneth Cope lived in Southport with his wife Renny. She survives him along with their three children: Martha, Nick and Mark.
