Six years since their separation, the Step Up co-stars, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan have officially completed their divorce. The celebrity couple have signed a judgement this week, meaning they will avoid their December trial after they agreed to waiver spousal support.
This follows a 6 year ongoing battle based in part on Channing's continued earnings from the Magic Mike franchise. The couple met on the set of Step Up in 2006 and were engaged two years later. They were finally married in 2009 in Malibu and welcomed their daughter, Everly, now 11, in 2013.
Dispute
The former couple have been in a bitter dispute over the profits for Channing's 2012 film 'Magic Mike', with Jenna claiming her ex-husband co-financed the movie with marital funds and that it was developed during their relationship.
Magic Mike Earnings
Four months ago, while going through their divorce, Jenna alleged that they had jointly acquired the Magic Mike intellectual property. She claimed he had stashed the earnings in "an irrevocable trust" and transferred the licensing rights to another party without her being in the loop. Channing disputed the claims, saying:
"I have never denied Petitioner her share of any community assets or income. I have always agreed for Petitioner to have an interest in the Magic Mike intellectual property and related entities." He also added that during their marriage, Jenna "had equal access to our business managers and financial records" and that she's had "complete access to all our financial records for all activities during our marriage and since separation." He accused Jenna of using the claim to "delay the processing of the case and increase the expense of litigation."
Steve Kazee
Jenna Dewan shares son Callum, 4, and daughter Rhiannon, 3 months, with her fiancé Steve Kazee. Kazee is an American actor and singer, best known for starring as Guy in the musical Once, and for this performance he received the 2012 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical.
Jenna filed for divorce from Channing back in 2018, but recently she’s dealing with a disagreement in their case regarding Channing's 2012 movie Magic Mike. Channing starred in the 2012 film as a male stripper. The movie was a massive hit, it has a live show in Las Vegas, a reality show and various brand deals. Jenna was convinced that she was rightfully entitled to 50 percent of Channing's interests across the multiple businesses.
Back in August, Channing, engaged to Zoë Kravitz, accused Jenna of playing more delay games. She tried to disqualify his lawyers just three months ahead of their trial, and he claimed it was an obvious move to shift the court's focus away from her aim to postpone everything.
After Dewan accused Tatum of hiding part of his earnings, he filed new documents May 2024 arguing that her accusations lack truth and said:
"I have never denied Petitioner her share of any community assets or income, I have always agreed for Petitioner to have an interest in the Magic Mike intellectual property and related entities. During our marriage, Petitioner had equal access to our business managers and financial records. We communicated about our work and various projects on a regular basis. Since our separation, Petitioner has had complete access to all our financial records for all activities during our marriage and since separation."
The documents further contend that Jenna's petition aims to prolong the divorce proceedings. "It is designed to delay the processing of the case and increase the expense of litigation and will not, in any way, promote 'early resolution by settlement, in a case where five separate mediation sessions have resulted in Petitioner's simply ignoring a tendered proposed judgment for months."
The details of divorce settlement have not been made public, but both waived spousal support and have also consented to resolve any future custody disputes privately with a judge. After coming to an agreement, the couple have avoided a trial that was scheduled for December 2024.
