Rapper T.I., 44, is grappling with a substantial financial setback as he faces a federal tax lien of over $2 million, just as he celebrates a significant court victory. The hip-hop star, whose real name is Clifford Harris, has a reported fortune of $71 million, but his financial landscape is marred by federal debts.
The tax lien reveals that T.I. owes $383,512.45 for the tax year 2021 and $2,142,360.73 for 2022, totaling a debt of $2,525,873.18. This is not the first time T.I. and his wife, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle, have faced tax issues, they previously settled $1.3 million owed for 2012 and $3 million for 2013.
On September 23, T.I. and Tiny celebrated a major legal victory when a jury ruled in their favor against toy giant MGA Entertainment, ordering the company to pay them $71 million for infringing on their intellectual property. The couple's lawsuit, filed in 2020, claimed that MGA created dolls resembling their all-female group, the OMG Girlz, which they founded in 2009.
While basking in the glow of their court win, the couple's financial troubles emerged again, with the tax lien appearing just months after their successful settlement. T.I. noted that individuals often remain unaware of being in "unhealthy relationships," which he reflected on during the same period.
In a related legal matter, T.I. and Tiny are facing a lawsuit from a woman alleging sexual assault that occurred in 2005. The accuser claims she was drugged during an encounter with the couple, resulting in significant emotional and psychological harm. T.I. and Tiny have denied the allegations, stating that the case should be dismissed due to the statute of limitations.
In an unexpected move, T.I. announced his retirement from performing, revealing that his last paid gig will be at the 96.1 The Beat's Jingle Ball holiday concert in Atlanta on December 19. During a recent interview, he expressed gratitude for his final performance, stating, "I don’t need the money anymore, and I’m done with performing."
