Rust Cinematographer's Mother Accuses Alec Baldwin of Intensifying Pain with Refusal to Apologize.

Halyna Hutchins' mother is voicing her concerns about Alec Baldwin and the film Rust as it prepares for its world premiere in Poland.

On Tuesday, November 19, Hutchins' mother, Olga Solovey, issued a statement via her attorney, Gloria Allred, indicating that she will not be present at the premiere of Rust at the Camerimage Festival, an event that celebrates the achievements of cinematographers and directors of photography, taking place in Poland on November 20.

"It was always my hope to meet my daughter in Poland to watch her work come alive on screen," Solovey said in her statement. "Unfortunately, that was ripped away from me when Alec Baldwin discharged his gun and killed my daughter. Alec Baldwin continues to increase my pain with his refusal to apologize to me and his refusal to take responsibility for her death. Instead, he seeks to unjustly profit from his killing of my daughter. That is the reason why I refuse to attend the festival for the promotion of Rust, especially now when there is still no justice for my daughter."

Alec Baldwin, 66, had his involuntary manslaughter charges related to Hutchins' on-set death in October 2021 dismissed with prejudice by Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer just three days into his July trial. This decision followed Baldwin's defense team presenting arguments that prosecutors had concealed important evidence that emerged during the trial.

The actor has consistently asserted that he did not pull the trigger and is unaware of how the gun ended up with live ammunition during the incident.

In the statement from Gloria Allred, the attorney expressed that Baldwin's choice to not reach out to the family to offer his condolences is both harsh and disrespectful to Halyna and her legacy. "Now, a decision has been made to promote Rust to buyers in order to make a profit for Alec Baldwin and others that had a role in Halyna’s death," Gloria Allred added, noting that Olga, her father Anatolii and her sister Svetlana "will not agree with this plan to exploit Halyna’s death."

Olga, Anatolli, and Sveltana claim that Baldwin has not contacted Hutchins' family, a statement that originated in February 2023 when they initiated a civil lawsuit against him. Their allegations include battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, and loss of consortium.

In contrast, Baldwin and the producers of the film reached a separate settlement with Hutchins' husband, Matthew, who has since taken on the role of executive producer for Rust, in October 2022.

"I have no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame (to the producers or Mr. Baldwin), All of us believe Halyna's death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna's final work." Matthew expressed in a statement.

Rust wrapped up filming in May 2023. Despite New Mexico special prosecutor Kari T. Morrissey submitting motions for Judge Sommer to revisit her ruling on dismissing the involuntary manslaughter case against Baldwin, Sommer has pushed back against those claims and has repeatedly refused to reconsider Morrissey's case in recent months.

Camerimage has revealed that the film Rust will have its world premiere at the festival on October 3. During this announcement, cinematographer Bianca Cline, who took over filming after Hutchins and shared that Hutchins' mother and sister are "very excited" about the movie's upcoming release.

Rust still doesn't have a release date in the U.S. yet.

"Halyna's mother was probably the biggest champion of the film," Cline mentioned back then, "She wanted it to be done because she knew how much it meant to Halyna. She told me how excited Halyna was to see the film."
