Diddy Requests House Arrest in New York as Legal Battle Intensifies.
The legal representatives of Sean “Diddy” Combs have formally requested that the embattled music executive be permitted to serve his time under house arrest at his residence on the Upper East Side of New York City, accompanied by a bond of $50 million.
According to reports, Diddy’s lawyers proposed the deployment of one security guard at the entrance of the building housing the apartment, in addition to two more security personnel stationed within the three-bedroom unit.
Furthermore, it was indicated that the 55-year-old rapper would be prohibited from accessing the internet or telephone services, with all communications limited to interactions with his legal counsel. All telephone calls would be coordinated through the designated security team.
Diddy’s legal team argued that allowing him to remain under house arrest at his residence would impose “substantially more restrictive” conditions than his current detention at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center.
They highlighted that, in addition to being denied internet and phone access, Diddy would not be permitted any visitors except his attorneys. The legal team also proposed that family visits could be allowed, but only with prior approval before the trial.
They emphasized that this arrangement would give the Grammy Award-winning artist the opportunity to prepare for his upcoming trial in light of “new evidence and circumstances.”
A determination regarding Diddy's potential release on bail is anticipated to be made next week.
Diddy's legal representatives initially sought permission for the founder of Bad Boy Records to be placed under house arrest at his residence on the exclusive Star Island in Florida. This property, one of several owned by Diddy, was subject to a raid by Homeland Security Agents in March.
Access to the island is limited to a single entry and exit point, and while there is a dock available, the attorneys specified that the actor from Get Him to the Greek would not have access to a boat during his stay.
U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian promptly rejected the request, stating, "That is not going to work."
Four bail requests have been submitted since Diddy's arrest on September 16. He faces multiple charges, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking through force, fraud, or coercion. The indictment alleges that Diddy engaged in a prolonged and widespread pattern of misconduct against women, involving verbal, physical, and sexual abuse.
“To do so, Diddy relied on the employees, resources and influence of the multi-faceted business empire that he led and controlled — creating a criminal enterprise whose members and associates engaged in, and attempted to engage in, among other crimes, sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery and obstruction of justice.”
Diddy pleaded not guilty to all allegations, and the day after his arrest, his attorney, Marc Agnifilo, issued a statement to the press.
“We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office,” Agnifilo told the outlet. “Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man, and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children and working to uplift the Black community.”
