Who Is Nathan Mahoney? Anderson Express Employee Arrested After Allegedly Stabbing CEO.
Nathan Mahoney is under suspicion for allegedly stabbing Erik Denslow, the CEO of Anderson Express, Inc. This incident may be a potential copycat of the alleged shooting of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson by Luigi Mangione.
Who Is Nathan Mahoney?
Mahoney is said to reside in Walker, Michigan, which is roughly a 40-minute drive from Muskegon, where Anderson Express is based. He had recently joined the company and started his employee training just two weeks before the stabbing, as reported by WOODTV on December 18, 2024.
Mahoney was brought on board to fill a senior position left vacant by a retiring employee. Colleagues at Anderson Express described him as having a “quiet demeanor.”
Why Was Nathan Mahoney Arrested?
On December 18, 2024, Mahoney allegedly entered a conference room during a staff meeting at Anderson Express, wearing a black medical mask, and stabbed Denslow in the side. An arrest affidavit obtained by MLive indicated that he used a red-handled knife with a four-inch blade.
After the stabbing, Mahoney reportedly left the building and fled the scene. He was apprehended about 15 minutes later and charged with assault with intent to murder, as well as fleeing and eluding a police officer, according to Fruitport Township police and USA Today.
The Fruitport Township Police Department in Muskegon later issued a press release concerning the incident. “Our preliminary investigation indicates that around 9:20 a.m. this morning, during a staff meeting, the President of Anderson Express Inc. was stabbed by a 32-year-old male employee,” the press release stated. “After the stabbing, the suspect fled the scene in his vehicle. Police apprehended him approximately 15 minutes later.”

The statement went on to say, “The 32-year-old suspect, who lives in Walker, MI, is currently in custody and is expected to face arraignment tomorrow. Colleagues described him as having a reserved personality, and a motive for the attack has not yet been determined. The victim has successfully undergone surgery and is in serious but stable condition.” The press release also noted that the investigation is ongoing, and local authorities have secured video footage from the scene. They encouraged anyone with information about the incident to reach out to their office. Lawyer Monthly confirmed through online records that Mahoney is being held at the Muskegon County Jail, with a bond set at $500,000.
Fruitport Township Deputy Chief Greg Poulson shared with News 8 on December 18, 2024, that they have not dismissed the possibility of a copycat motive in this case. "It's something that crosses everyone's mind during times like these. We're thoroughly examining all of his social media accounts and electronic devices to uncover a motive for this incident. It seems to be a trend in today's world."
Thompson was tragically shot on December 4, 2024, as he left a Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan. An assailant approached him from behind and fired a shot at his back. After Thompson fell to the ground, the shooter moved closer and fired again before fleeing the scene. He was quickly taken to a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. On December 9, 2024, Mangione was identified as a suspect in the murder and was later apprehended in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
He faces multiple charges, including one count of using a firearm to commit murder, one count of interstate stalking resulting in death, one count of stalking through interstate facilities resulting in death, and one count of discharging a firearm equipped with a silencer in connection with a violent crime. As of the time of this publication, no hearing has been scheduled for Mangione.
