Stephen A. Cozen, Founder of Cozen O’Connor Law Firm, Dies at 85.

The Philadelphia Bar Association released a statement commemorating the life of Stephen A. Cozen, the Founder and Chairman of Cozen O’Connor, who recently passed away. Cozen established Cozen O’Connor in 1970, starting with just four attorneys.

Today, the firm boasts over 900 lawyers and maintains 32 offices across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. “We were deeply saddened to learn of Steve Cozen's passing, a distinguished leader within the Philadelphia legal community for many years,” stated Chancellor Jen Coatsworth. “We had the privilege of honoring Steve at our Annual Meeting on December 10, where he was inducted into our 60-Year Club for his extensive contributions to the legal profession.”

“Steve and Cozen O’Connor have consistently been strong supporters of our Association, achieving 100% membership among the firm’s attorneys,” Coatsworth added. “Steve recognized the importance of Cozen attorneys participating in an organization dedicated to enhancing the legal profession and serving our clients, and our Association valued his commitment to our mission. His absence will be profoundly felt.” “Steve Cozen was a trailblazer who cultivated a law firm culture that embraced inclusivity and warmth,” remarked Chancellor-Elect Katayun Jaffari, who chairs the Corporate Governance Group and co-chairs both the Capital Markets & Securities Group and the ESG Group at Cozen O’Connor. “

Steve had a deep belief in this City and the capabilities of Philadelphia lawyers. He inspired Cozen attorneys to excel in their practice while also encouraging them to engage with the community and effect positive change. I am thankful for the motivation I derived from his leadership.”
