Brody Jenner, 41, recently shared that Caitlyn Jenner, his father, has expressed deep regret for her absence during his childhood. In a candid moment on the January 15 episode of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, Brody reflected on the emotional apology he received from Caitlyn, 75.

In a heartfelt moment on Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, Brody shared how this sincere apology meant a lot to him, as it marked the first time he had ever received such an acknowledgment from Caitlyn. This revelation sheds light on their complex relationship and Brody’s new perspective on fatherhood after the birth of his daughter.

“Just recently, I got a real, sincere apology,” Brody said. “It was the first time in my life that I’ve ever gotten an apology. You know, ‘I’m sorry for not being there,’ and honestly, it meant a lot.”

The father-son relationship has been complex, with Caitlyn often absent during Brody’s formative years. Before Caitlyn transitioned in 2015, she was known as Bruce Jenner, the Olympian and former motivational speaker. Growing up, Brody had limited contact with his father, recalling, “I’d randomly see him — ‘him’ at the time — you know, here and there,” he remembered. “But, mom would tell me that I would write on cards, ‘Why doesn’t dad call me on my birthday?’”

Caitlyn Jenner, now a proud parent of six children from three marriages, has had a unique family dynamic. She shares two children, Burt and Cassandra, with Chrystie Scott, Brody and Brandon with Linda Thompson, and Kendall and Kylie with Kris Jenner. Despite the tumultuous past, Brody has been able to reconcile some of his feelings towards Caitlyn, noting that she has worked to improve their relationship in recent years.

Brody further explained his childhood, stating, “I had an incredible mother. Father, Bruce, at the time, wasn’t around that much. They split, and then he met a woman. She had kids as well. The woman that he met … they had kids together.” Caitlyn was also prominently featured on Keeping Up With the Kardashians from 2007 to 2021, a show that Brody feels left him somewhat sidelined. “I felt a little bit abandoned by the Kardashians’ show,” he admitted. However, he acknowledged that Caitlyn was facing her own struggles during her transition, which likely influenced her emotional absence. “I think that there were a lot of things that started to make sense, you know, just in my life, about my father, and maybe why he wasn’t there all those years,” Brody reflected.

The birth of his daughter Honey in 2023 has given Brody a new perspective on fatherhood. “I think not having Bruce around growing up and her doing that transition, it was tough just being her son,” Brody said. “I just had a beautiful little daughter. I’m not living for myself anymore. I’m living for her. … I think it’s gonna make me a better father.”

Brody has vowed to take a different approach with his daughter, emphasizing that he will be there for her in ways his father was not for him. “I’m gonna do the exact opposite of, as far as being there for her, as my father did for me,” Brody expressed, showing his commitment to being the kind of father he always wanted. This shift in his outlook has been a transformative experience, one that reflects his personal growth and understanding of the complex relationships in his life.
