Russian and Uzbek Nationals Arrested in Florida for Voter Fraud Scheme.
Dmitry Shushlebin, a 45-year-old Russian national living in Miami Beach, and Sanjar Jamilov, a 33-year-old Uzbek national residing in St. Petersburg, have been arrested for their involvement in a fraudulent voter registration scheme in Florida. According to court documents, the pair conspired to submit 132 fraudulent voter registration applications between February and March 2023. The applications contained identical formatting and typographical errors, with repeated dates of birth, addresses, and nearly sequential social security numbers. These forms were submitted under names that were not their own, with some linked to addresses controlled by the suspects.
Change-of-address forms were filed with the U.S. Postal Service to reroute mail to fraudulent addresses tied to the suspects, strengthening their fraudulent activity. Shushlebin and Jamilov now face charges for conspiring to submit false voter registrations and providing incorrect information. If convicted, they could face up to five years in prison.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), the FBI, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement following a referral from the Florida Department of State, Office of Election Crime and Security. Supervisory Official Antoinette T. Bacon of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, along with U.S. Attorney Roger B. Handberg and other officials, made the announcement of the arrests. Trial Attorney Leo J. Wise and Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel J. Marcet are handling the prosecution of the case.
