France Identité App Expands Ticket Control Feature for TGV and Intercités Trains.

The France Identité app has taken a significant step forward in revolutionizing ticket control for travelers in France. Starting this Thursday, passengers on TGV Inoui and Intercités trains will no longer need to present a physical transport ticket. Instead, SNCF has begun using the France Identité app to digitally check tickets, offering a more seamless travel experience.

This new feature allows travelers to use the app to digitize their identity card and driver’s license, eliminating the need for paper tickets. Following a successful trial run that started in mid-January, the system has shown promising results. Now, you can board TGV Inoui and Intercités trains simply by displaying a QR code generated by the app, which ticket controllers will scan to access your personal details, including your name, first name, and date of birth—information provided during your booking.

Currently, this digital ticketing system is exclusive to TGV Inoui and Intercités services, as these tickets are linked to specific individuals. However, the system is expected to be expanded to include Ouigo services soon. For TER and Transilien trains, you’ll still need to present your ticket, either through the SNCF Connect app or in person, including at platform gates.

To use the new feature, ensure that you’ve enabled the option within the France Identité app. Accessing it requires a valid Carte Bleue identity card, which has been issued since 2021. With 25 million people in France holding this card, only around 1.5 million are currently using France Identité, as noted by Anne-Gaëlle Baudouin, CEO of France Titres. Travelers without a Carte Bleue will need to wait until their identity card is renewed to take advantage of this service.

Since January 20, 2025, a joint experiment between France Identité and SNCF Voyageurs has been launched to streamline the travel experience on TGV INOUI trains. This new initiative allows passengers to use the France Identité app for both identity verification and ticket control, eliminating the need to present a physical train ticket or identity document.

Passengers with a TGV INOUI subscription or an SNCF Voyageurs advantage card can simply show the France Identité app on their mobile devices for easy and secure verification.

It’s important to note that minors are not permitted to use the France Identité app and must continue presenting their physical tickets when traveling.
