Man Lived with Girlfriend’s Dead Body for a Month Before Reporting It.

A chilling case in Milwaukee has left authorities stunned after a man admitted to living with his girlfriend’s dead body for nearly a month before notifying police. Serkan Akcilad, 24, is now behind bars on a $1,000,000 bond, facing reckless homicide charges in connection with the death of his girlfriend, 21-year-old Silan Tut. His shocking explanation for the delay? He allegedly thought she was “playing a joke” on him before realizing she was dead.

Man Slept Next to Girlfriend’s Body for Weeks

According to the arrest affidavit, Akcilad claimed he discovered Tut’s lifeless body on January 24 after returning home from errands. He initially assumed she was pranking him but soon realized she was cold to the touch. He told police he "passed out from shock" and, after waking up, found her still dead before supposedly fainting again. Instead of reporting her death, he continued living in the apartment, even sleeping beside her body on the floor.

The next day, January 25, Akcilad allegedly attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head with a nail gun. Incredibly, the nail remained lodged in his skull for a month until he finally reported Tut’s death on February 27.

Eviction Notice Forced Him to Call Police

Akcilad only reported Tut’s death when he realized property management would be inspecting the apartment due to an eviction notice. He told police he was “unfamiliar with the laws of this country” and did not know how to handle the situation. However, his actions raised further suspicions.

Despite his claims of innocence, security footage showed him purchasing a bottle of bleach the night Tut died. Akcilad insisted it was for cleaning up after their pet hamsters before an upcoming trip to Chicago. Additionally, he continued using Tut’s phone to send messages to her family, even sending them an old photo to convince them she was alive and well.

Crime Scene Evidence Points to Cover-Up

When authorities arrived at the apartment, they found Tut’s body lying face up with a pillow under her head—raising suspicions that the scene had been staged. Crime scene analysts determined she had been stabbed elsewhere and later moved to where police found her.

Tut suffered multiple stab wounds to the torso and neck, and forensic experts estimated she had been dead for about a month. Investigators also noted the suspicious absence of sharp knives in the apartment. When questioned, Akcilad claimed he had no idea what happened to them—just as he was unable to account for the nail gun he used in his failed suicide attempt.

What’s Next in the Murder Investigation?

Akcilad remains in custody on a $1,000,000 bond, with his next court appearance scheduled for March 19. Prosecutors are expected to argue that his month-long delay in reporting Tut’s death, the staged crime scene, and his inconsistent statements all point to an attempted cover-up rather than an innocent misunderstanding.

This case has drawn national attention due to its disturbing details and bizarre timeline. As more evidence emerges, authorities will work to determine the full truth behind Silan Tut’s tragic death—and whether justice will be served. Stay tuned for further updates as the case unfolds.
