Man Kills Childhood Friend at Her 21st Birthday, Then Uses Her Credit Card for OnlyFans.

A 21-year-old woman was tragically killed by a childhood friend at the birthday party he threw for her—before he callously used her credit card for an OnlyFans subscription. The shocking case, which unfolded in Syracuse, New York, has now resulted in the suspect receiving a prison sentence of 23 years to life.

A Birthday Celebration Turns Into a Nightmare

Joselyn Toaquiza had been looking forward to celebrating her 21st birthday at an Airbnb rented by longtime friend Jhon Chacaguasay-Ilbis. Instead, the night ended in tragedy when he strangled her and disposed of her body in a park.

Ring camera footage captured what are believed to be Toaquiza’s last moments alive. She and Chacaguasay-Ilbis were seen entering the Airbnb together, looking at their phones as they walked inside. Three hours later, footage showed him leaving the residence with Toaquiza draped over his shoulders. Shockingly, as he carried her toward his car, a police cruiser drove past him—but officers did not stop.

The Gruesome Discovery

Toaquiza’s family reported her missing the next day, June 19, 2024. After days of searching, her body was discovered on June 22 in a shallow grave at a nearby park. An autopsy later confirmed she had been strangled to death.

Adding to the horror, prosecutors revealed that after killing Toaquiza, Chacaguasay-Ilbis stole her credit card and used it to purchase an OnlyFans subscription, along with other items. Days later, he turned himself in to police.

A Chilling Lack of Motive

During his trial, prosecutors struggled to determine a motive for the murder. While Chacaguasay-Ilbis and Toaquiza had known each other as children in Ecuador, it remains unclear how close they were as adults before the tragedy. Both were reportedly awaiting immigration hearings to determine whether they could remain in the United States.

Chacaguasay-Ilbis later claimed he was intoxicated and did not remember what happened. His attorney, Ben Coffin, argued that his client had been putting himself in dangerous situations following the murder—alleging that he was mugged and sexually assaulted by a sex worker before his arrest. However, these claims did little to sway the court.

Justice for Joselyn

At his sentencing hearing on March 10, 2025, Chacaguasay-Ilbis addressed the court, apologizing to Toaquiza’s family. "I feel really bad and ashamed for this situation that I caused... I acknowledge the damage and I’m responsible for my actions," he stated.

Toaquiza’s father, devastated by the loss of his daughter, shared a heartbreaking letter in court, mourning the death of his "princess."

With Chacaguasay-Ilbis now sentenced to 23 years to life in prison, Toaquiza’s family hopes for justice, though no punishment can bring back the vibrant young woman whose life was cruelly stolen on what should have been a night of celebration.
