Vincent Perkins Convicted for 2022 Philly Shooting Incident.
Vincent Perkins, 23, has been convicted for his involvement in a shooting that left a 58-year-old man injured in Philadelphia’s Strawberry Mansion section in 2022.
The jury found Perkins guilty of multiple charges, including Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Assault, Possession of an Instrument of Crime, and several violations under the Uniform Firearms Act (VUFA).
Perkins’ conviction comes after a careful investigation into a violent incident on March 17, 2022, where Perkins and four other conspirators opened fire on a city block. The shooting involved a total of 76 rounds, and the innocent 58-year-old victim was struck in the groin and stomach.
The victim managed to return home and call 911 after being injured.
Details of the 2022 Shooting Incident
The shooting took place in the afternoon on the 3000 block of Page Street in Philadelphia. Perkins and his conspirators fired 76 rounds at the block, using four different types of firearms, including 9mm, .380 caliber, .45 caliber, and .223 caliber handguns.
The reckless nature of the shooting endangered many lives, but the victim was not the intended target.
While the victim suffered serious injuries, he was able to walk back to his residence and alert authorities. This resilient act led to a swift response from law enforcement, who began their investigation into the crime.
Investigation and Surveillance Evidence
A thorough investigation by the Philadelphia Police Department played a crucial role in Perkins’ conviction. Law enforcement recovered 76 fired cartridge casings (FCCs) from the scene, which indicated the use of multiple firearms.
Surveillance footage from nearby locations helped investigators piece together key details about the crime and led to Perkins being identified.
One significant breakthrough came when authorities linked a hooded sweatshirt worn by Perkins during the shooting to a photo posted on his Instagram account. This social media evidence became pivotal in the investigation, allowing officers to connect the suspect to the crime scene.
Perkins was arrested in May 2022, marking a major step forward in solving the case.
Co-Conspirators and Unidentified Suspects
Perkins was not the only person involved in this violent crime. One of his co-conspirators has been charged with four murders, adding to the seriousness of the criminal activity.
Three others involved in the Page Street shooting remain unidentified, and authorities are actively working to locate and charge them.
The fact that multiple firearms were used in the shooting suggests a high level of premeditation and coordination among the conspirators. The ongoing investigation into these other suspects demonstrates that law enforcement is committed to holding everyone responsible for the shooting accountable.
Future Sentencing and Legal Proceedings
Perkins is scheduled to be sentenced in June 2025 before Judge Deborah Cianfrani. Given the severity of the charges and the significant impact of the shooting, the sentencing is expected to be a critical moment in this case.
The Philadelphia District Attorney, Larry Krasner, expressed his gratitude to Assistant District Attorney Ty Pittinger for securing the conviction, as well as to the Shooting Investigation Group (SIG) and the PPD’s social media analysts.
Their meticulous work in gathering evidence and analyzing key details played a crucial role in the successful prosecution of Perkins.
