LAWYER MOVES The University of Law has announced Professor Craig Mahoney’s appointment as its new Vice- Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer. Professor Mahoney is an accomplished senior leader with a record of working in UK universities, including research-led Russell Group universities and teaching-led institutions. He has worked in education for over 30 years and was shortlisted for the Guardian Outstanding Leader in UK Higher Education in 2018. He now joins the University of Law from the University of West Scotland, where he has spent an 8-year stint as Principal and Vice- Chancellor. Professor Mahoney is slated to join the University of Law’s Executive Board in early 2022, where he will be responsible for the academic, operational and commercial leadership of the University. “I am honoured and delighted to have been appointed as The University of Law’s next Vice- Chancellor and Chief Executive Office,” Professor Mahoney said in a statement. “I look forward to building on the momentum and achievements that have been delivered under Professor Andrea Nollent’s leadership.” During his tenure at the University of West Scotland, Professor Mahoney saw the student body grow by 7,000 and led the University to become the top university in Scotland for knowledge exchange and make the top 5 UK-wide. The University of LawAppoints NewVice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer Global law firm Jones Day has announced that Sara M Ripa has joined the firm as counsel in its Business & Tort Litigation practice. She will be based in the firm’s office. Ripa brings almost a decade of experience in antitrust class action litigation and Foreign Corrupt Practice Act (FCPA) investigations, in addition to related client counselling. She also has recent experience in representing tech companies as part of internal FCPA investigations. As part of Jones Day’s Business & Tort Litigation practice, Ripa will assist in serving clients in business and government disputes, torts and civil litigation. She will provide the firm’s clients with litigation counsel related to anti-bribery compliance risks, conducting risk assessments, and advising on third-party risks. John Majoras, co-leader of Jones Day’s Business & Tort Litigation practice, hailed Ripa’s arrival. “Sarah has both cross-border litigation and investigation experience which enhances our execution of seamless solutions for our clients,” he said. “Her exceptional skills add value and she will be a significant resource for our clients.” In addition to her torts and litigation work, Ripa has been involved in a wide variety of white-collar defence matter and has advised companies on antitrust risk. Leading UK consumer legal services business Slater and Gordon has announced the appointment of Kevin Bristow to its family department in London. He joins the firm as a Principal Lawyer from Clarkson Wright and Jakes Ltd where he was previously a partner. Bristow primarily undertakes financial remedy work involving international elements for HNWIs. His past clients have included doctors, company directors, professional footballers and media personalities. He also specialises in private family law matters involving children, such as leave to remove cases, civil partnerships, cohabitation agreements, and the drafting and advising of pre- and post-nuptial agreements. Bristow also brings with him experience at the Hague Convention, the High Court, county courts and all levels of the magistrates. He is a member of Resolution, a group of family justice professionals working with families and individuals to constructively resolve issues, and has been ranked in both Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500.
