from the published literature to support my opinions. This is a level of experience that most expert witnesses cannot offer. Another unique aspect of my background is formal training and experience in education, which provides me with the ability to comment on issues related to radiologist training and competency. There have been a number of times where the competency of a radiologist is brought into question based on the type of miss and number of studies he or she has interpreted. I was a member of the ACGME committee that crafted the Diagnostic Radiology Milestones, which are the competency requirements used for every radiology resident to graduate in the US. I was also a member of the ACGME committee that crafted the Abdominal Imaging Fellowship Milestones and spent several years with the ACGME Radiology Review Committee formally reviewing radiology residency and fellowship programs across the US. In my various administrative and leadership roles in academic departments and national radiological organisations, I gained significant experience with national standards and critical aspects of hospital and department policies and procedures, having written and revised operational, communication, and quality- related policies at several practices. Many malpractice cases I have consulted on involved operational or communication-related issues where this experience has been invaluable in determining when physician or staff member activities constituted a breach of the standard of care.
